Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data TastyMeter collects, why, and what you can do about it. TastyMeter is a website where travelers rate dishes in Thailand and restaurants list their dishes.

1. Who we are

TastyMeter is operated by Dallas and Sons Ltd, a company registered in Mauritius ([Company registration number]), [Registered address in Mauritius]. We are the controller of the personal data described here.

2. What we collect

When you browse

Technical data: your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit, recorded in standard server logs by our hosting provider.
Location (Near me): only when you tap Near me and allow it in your browser. Your browser keeps your approximate location for up to 30 minutes and adds it to the search address so we can sort dishes by distance. We do not save it to any account.

When you vote on a dish

A cookie on your device that remembers you voted on that dish (kept up to 1 year).
Your IP address, kept temporarily (about 24 hours) to block repeat votes from the same connection.
We do not ask for your name or email to vote.

When you leave a comment

Your comment, and the name and email you choose to give (both optional). Your email is never shown publicly.
Your IP address and browser details, stored with the comment to fight spam and abuse.
If you tick “Remember my name and email on this device”, cookies on your device keep them for next time.
Cookies that remember you already commented on a dish.

When you sign up for emails

If you tick “Email me trending dishes and restaurant deals”, we keep your email, the name you gave, the date and the dish page where you signed up.

When you list a restaurant (owners)

Account details: your name, email and password (stored encrypted).
Restaurant details: name, address, neighborhood, phone, opening hours, map link, photos and dish information. Restaurant and dish details are shown publicly; your email and password are not.
Login cookies that keep you signed in.

3. Why we use it (legal bases)

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us run TastyMeter, under contracts that protect it:

Hosting: [Hosting provider], which stores the website and its database.

Newsletter: [Newsletter tool], only for people who opted in.
Google Maps: dish and restaurant pages embed Google Maps. When a map loads, Google receives your IP address and may set its own cookies. See Google’s privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
Web fonts: some fonts may be loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address.
Authorities: when the law requires it, or to protect our users and our rights.

Public content, such as comments, restaurant and dish details, and owner replies, can be seen by anyone who visits the site.

5. International transfers

We operate from Mauritius, our site focuses on Thailand, and our providers may store data in other countries. When your data leaves your country, we rely on safeguards required by the applicable law, such as standard contractual clauses or the provider’s own transfer commitments.

6. How long we keep it

These cookies are needed for the features you use. We do not use advertising cookies. If we add analytics or ads later, we will update this policy and ask for consent where required.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:

access the personal data we hold about you, or get a copy;
correct it, or delete it;
restrict or object to how we use it;
withdraw consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing from emails;
move your data to another service.

These rights come from the Mauritius Data Protection Act 2017, the EU and UK GDPR, Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and US state privacy laws such as California’s (CCPA). We do not sell or share personal data for targeted advertising.

To make a request, email help.tastymeter@gmail.com. We reply within 30 days and may ask you to confirm your identity. You can also complain to your local data protection authority, such as the Data Protection Office in Mauritius or the authority in your country.

9. Security

We use HTTPS, encrypted passwords, limited admin access and regular updates. No website is completely secure, so please use a strong, unique password for your owner account.

10. Children

TastyMeter is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you think a child gave us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the site changes. We will change the effective date at the top, and tell owners and subscribers by email about important changes.
